Morgan Sindall Construction has appointed Nick Corrigan as area director for its North East and Cumbria business. He arrives from Willmott Dixon, where he spent close to thirteen years and latterly ran the North East region.

This is not a routine hire. When you take a rival's regional leader after thirteen years in post, you are not buying a CV, you are buying his address book: the client relationships, framework positions and local supply chain knowledge that take a decade to build in the North East. Morgan Sindall has been open about wanting growth in the region and in Cumbria, and appointing the man who ran the patch for a direct competitor is the fastest route to it.

The more interesting question sits on the other side of the move. Willmott Dixon now has a North East succession question after thirteen years of continuity, and regional construction is a relationships business. Clients up there were loyal to a person as much as a logo, and every one of those relationships is now in play. Expect movement beneath this one: long-tenured regional leaders rarely move alone.
